TAMPA, Fla. (April 6, 2015) – NFL Hall of Famer and longtime philanthropist Derrick Brooks will host a slot tournament and blackjack event on Sunday, April 26, at Seminole Hard Rock Tampa to benefit Derrick Brooks Charities, Inc., which focuses on improving the lives of underserved youth in Tampa Bay.
The slot tournament and blackjack event will be part of the 15th annual Derrick Brooks Celebrity Classic Weekend which includes a golf tournament at Avila Country Club on April 27 (a pairing party for the golf tournament is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in Hard Rock Cafe).
The slot tournament, which will run from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at center bar, carries a $10 entry fee with 50 percent of the proceeds going to the charity and 50 percent to the prize pool. There is a $250 buy-in for the blackjack event (at 7:30 p.m. in Hard Rock Cafe), which also includes entry to the golf pairing party.
Tickets for both the slot tournament and blackjack event may be purchased at the Rock Shop. Participants must be 21 years of age or older and a Seminole Player’s Club cardholder.
The winner of the blackjack event will receive $5,000 and $5,000 promotional chips, while second-place will be awarded $5,000 promotional chips and third-place $2,000 promotional chips.
In addition to a portion of the slot tournament proceeds going to Derrick Brooks Charities, Inc., the casino will be donating 100 percent of the proceeds generated from sales of limited edition Derrick Brooks Charities sunglasses in the Rock Shop as well as proceeds from sales of the 2015 Seminole Hard Rock Girls Calendar.
Following a red carpet ceremony at 6 p.m. outside of Hard Rock Cafe (which will include Seminole Hard Rock Calendar Cover Girl, Deanna), a benefit concert will take place in Hard Rock Cafe. After the concert, the casino will present to the charity a check and signed customized fender guitar.
Recognized as often for his hard work in the community as he was for his hard hits on the football field, Brooks remains one of the most community-minded players in the NFL. He has been the recipient of several prestigious awards, including the 2000 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award, the 2003 Bart Starr Award, the 2004 Byron “Whizzer” White Award and the 2008 JB Award through the NFL Players Association, all of which recognize an NFL player annually for their commitment to the communities in which they live.
Last August, Brooks was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame and was enshrined in Canton, Ohio.
